Control each solution independently
Set each syringe pump independently to explore core-to-shell feed ratios. Separate fluid-delivery and collector-motion controls let you study how relative flow, formulation, and collection conditions influence the resulting structure.
Bring two materials together at the spinneret
Separate fluid channels meet at the coaxial tip, providing a path to investigate materials with distinct inner and outer functions. Research directions include combining a functional core with a protective shell or incorporating an additive into one fluid stream.
Tune the electric field and collection
The included LabMate 30 — Positive, Local Control provides regulated output adjustable from 0 to +30 kV. Collector rotation and linear motion provide additional controls for studying deposition across the collection surface.
Keep the experiment organized
The enclosed workspace brings the two fluid-delivery paths and collector together. Adjust each pump independently, set collector rotation and linear motion using the collector controls, and set voltage on the separate LabMate benchtop supply.
Each pump delivers a solution through its own spinneret channel. The electric field draws the emerging liquid into a charged jet. With a suitable polymer formulation, the jet stretches and solidifies into fibers as solvent evaporates. Under electrospraying conditions, the liquid breaks into droplets instead.
The dual-fluid arrangement gives you a way to study internal material structure as well as external morphology. Confirm the resulting structure through appropriate characterization.
The included LabMate 30 uses Spruce Science's coaxial high voltage connector system, with a central conductor, insulation, and a grounded outer shield. A stainless-steel shell protects the supply-side connector, and the quick-disconnect coupling connects the apparatus cable to the supply. Proper installation and grounding remain essential. What determines the core-shell structure?
The two fluids, their relative flow rates, and the processing conditions determine the resulting structure. The coaxial spinneret provides the delivery geometry; material characterization establishes whether the desired core-shell structure has formed.
How can the +30 kV range help with collection distance?
Additional voltage headroom can support experiments with a larger spinneret-to-collector gap. Under suitable conditions, the longer flight path can provide more opportunity for jet stretching and solvent evaporation. Develop the voltage, gap, and flow settings together for your formulation.
