Connector assembly

The LabMate supply connects to the tower through a coaxial high voltage cable with a central conductor, insulation, and a grounded outer shield. The shield helps reduce capacitive coupling and electrical noise while providing a grounded barrier around the high voltage path. Proper grounding and installation are required.

Explore fibers, droplets, and deposited materials with a stationary collection surface

SpinSpray Lab 10 — Flat Collector combines a syringe-pump tower, a flat aluminum base plate, and a regulated LabMate high voltage supply adjustable up to +10 kV. It is the Lab 10 platform configured for experiments that use a flat collector, including electrospraying and fiber deposition.

Why choose SpinSpray Lab 10 - Flat Collector?

Collect on a stationary surface

The aluminum base plate serves as the collector for deposition studies. It provides a straightforward collection geometry when your experiment does not require drum rotation. You can also design and install a custom collector on the aluminum base plate to explore a different collection geometry. Account for mounting, grounding, and adequate clearance from the high voltage electrode in your design.

Make voltage a controlled variable

The included LabMate 10 — Positive, Local Control provides regulated output adjustable from 0 to +10 kV. Vary the applied voltage alongside fluid delivery to study the response of your formulation.

Explore both fibers and sprays

Use suitable polymer formulations to investigate electrospinning, or study droplet-based deposition under electrospraying conditions. The outcome depends on the solution and process settings.

A compact pump designed for high voltage

Spruce Science designed the syringe pump for integration into high voltage experiments. Its compact, insulated construction allows the needle electrode to connect directly to the syringe. This short fluid path reduces the sample volume needed to fill external delivery tubing and keeps more of your formulation available for the experiment.

Research applications

How the process works

The syringe pump delivers liquid to the needle. High voltage establishes an electric field between the liquid and grounded collector, drawing out a charged jet. With a suitable polymer formulation, the jet stretches and solidifies into fibers as solvent evaporates. Under electrospraying conditions, the liquid breaks into droplets, which may dry into particles or form a deposit.

Voltage, flow, formulation, and collection geometry work together. Adjust these parameters to develop the fiber structure, particle size, or deposition characteristics your experiment requires.

How does this differ from SpinSpray Starter 20?

Lab 10 gives you a regulated voltage setting adjustable up to +10 kV. Starter 20 uses an unregulated source nominally around +20 kV for feasibility testing and education. Choose Lab 10 when controlled voltage adjustment is important to your experiment; the larger number in Starter 20's name does not indicate greater process control.

Can a flat collector collect fibers as well as droplets?

Yes. A flat collector can receive electrospun fibers or electrosprayed deposits. Whether the liquid forms fibers or droplets is determined by the formulation and processing conditions.

Laboratory setup and safe operation: High voltage and stored electrical energy can cause serious or fatal injury. Use trained personnel, proper earth grounding, suitable barriers, and ventilation appropriate to your solvents. Switch off the system and verify discharge before accessing electrical connections or the collector. Follow the operating manual and your laboratory's safety requirements.

Choose the correct configuration: SpinSpray Lab 10 uses a regulated, adjustable high-voltage supply. Confirm collector configuration before ordering, as flat and rotary versions are separate SKUs.
