Electrospinning Machine 30kV

Electrospinning Machine 30kV is great for producing nanofibers.

Electrospinning is a high voltage driven method of producing fibers. In essence, electrospinning is the process of using a high voltage power supply to fabricate continuous fibers that are nanometers to micrometers in diameter. Electrospinning process can be used to produce fibers from many synthetic and natural polymers. Some of the attractive properties of these fibers are the small diameter, high porosity and high surface-to-volume ratio.

The actual process will vary by the material and chemistry you are working with. But the general procedure is to mix the polymer with a solvent and fill it in a syringe. It is then loaded on a syringe pump.  After that, the syringe pump flow rate is adjusted to the desired flow rate and high voltage is applied to the liquid solution. Under the influence of the intense electric fields, polymers are charged and stretched to small diameter fibers. The electrospun fiber strands are then collected on a spindle.

The following are some pictures of electrospun PVP fibers produced on the Electrospinning Machine 30kV. The first picture shown on the left side shows the electrospun fibers on the collector assembly. The second picture on the right is the freestanding sheet of electrospun fibers after it was removed from the collector.  Working with high voltage is unpredictable in many ways yet it produces wonderful results.

Everything you need for electrospinning experiments are included. The apparatus consists of:

High voltage connections on Electrospinning Machine 30kV.

Electrospinning Machine 30kV - High Voltage Connection

There are two high voltage connections on the Electrospinning Machine 30kV:

  1. Connection between high voltage power supply and electrospinning tower.
  2. High voltage connection to the needle.
The high voltage connector assembly is a coaxial cable structure. The center wire is the high voltage conductor, the middle is the insulation layer, and outer layer is ground sheath. This is a great safety feature since the outer ground shell help prevent physical damage to the high voltage wire insulation and provide the user with an additional safety layer

Electrospinning Machine 30kV Exhaust
You can add-on an exhaust system for the Electrospinning Machine 30kV. This configuration consists of:

  • Exhaust port that is 4″ in diameter.
  • Blower fan with maximum airflow of 25 CFM.
  • Parallel exhaust manifolds on the top side.
  • Matching inlet ports located on the bottom side.

Safety

Your safety is paramount and rigorous safety practices must be enforced to ensure your safety when working with high voltage.

This power supply produces high voltages and stores energy that is hazardous. Physical contact with the high voltage output may result in life-threatening or fatal injury.

Before you turn on the high voltage power supply, always confirm first that the dial indicators are turned fully in the counter-clockwise direction and confirm the turn counting indicator reads 0.

Visually inspect the high voltage output connector and any high voltage connections for unintended touching or electrical shorts.

Always keep a safe distance from the test equipment and apparatus or system under test.

Do not touch connections unless the high voltage power supply is off and capacitors are completely discharged.  Allow five minutes for the high voltage power supply internal capacitors to discharge. Also, make sure the load capacitance is discharged.

Be extra cautious of any high voltage connections that are exposed. Such live terminals should be shielded and barriers must be provided to prevent accidental contact.

Proper grounding is very important. High voltage power supplies must always be grounded. Ensure that a secure ground connection is made between the high voltage power supply and earth ground.

All ungrounded terminals of the test equipment or apparatus under test should be considered as energized.

The work area for the HV power supply should be kept clean. It is important to put away unnecessary parts and components and to keep them far away from the test area.

The general work area around the HV power supply and high voltage connections must be kept dry.

Do not ground yourself or work under wet or damp conditions.

Always consult with your organization’s health and safety expert.
